Are you Confident in God?

Are you Confident in God?

Are you confident in God?

Most of us have spent much of our lives witnessing individuals who exude confidence. People who have managed, often times under extreme circumstances, to achieve great success. And while we marvel at these amazing individuals we can’t help but ask the age-old question, why don’t I have that kind of confidence?

Confidence has always been an area of struggle and difficulty for me. As a young boy, I struggled with self-esteem. A large part of this I believe was due to a speech impediment. For the first few years of school, I spent time each week with a speech therapist to help me overcome this issue. It took a lot of work but it’s one achievement that I’m extremely grateful for.

Even as I write this blog I find myself doubting whether I’m really qualified to do so. Several years ago I felt led by the Lord to write Christian fiction, My first novel was a Christmas novel that never really sold well. This took a great toll on my confidence and started me doubted God’s calling for me. A few years later, again at the prompting of the Lord, I began writing a new novel. It’s a Christian romance entitled “Forever Yours.”  I’m proud to say that a few months ago I completed that novel and it’s now available on Amazon. There haven’t been many days that I haven’t doubted whether I really have the ability to be a great writer or even a decent writer. But for some unforeseen reason, I keep writing.

So, is there something you’ve been wanting to do but lack the confidence? Have you tried asking God to grant you the confidence that you lack? Psalms 118:8 says, “It is better to trust in the Lord than to put confidence in man.” Despite what many professional athletes and celebrities may say contributed to their success the fact is each of them was born with a God-given talent. And their confidence, in themselves and their ability comes from the Lord as well. Even if they aren’t willing to admit it.

If we are to achieve the things that God has created us to, we have to find it in ourselves to trust in God. To trust in HIs word. Again, this has been an area of great struggle for me. In my heart, I truly believe that God wants me, even created me, to be a great writer. And yet, I find myself every day questioning where that belief comes from. But in my heart I know it comes from the Lord. From His word.

We owe it to God and to ourselves, no matter how difficult things may be to press forward with his plans for our lives. Jeremiah 29:11 says, “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”

My favorite part of this scripture is the words, “plans to give you hope and a future”. You see, I know God has a plan for me, and it’s to give me hope and a future.

Do you have hope? If you’re doubting yourself or even God today, then it’s my sincere prayer that you give you doubts, fears and concerns to God and that he’ll replace them with hope and a future.
