Angry With God?

Have you ever felt that God let you down or failed you in some way? Many believers and non-believers find themselves angry with God at one time or another.
In my Christian fiction novel “Forever Yours” our main character Monica Cooper finds herself angry with God over the death of her father.

This is a feeling for which I can relate to all too well. After losing my mother to cancer four years ago I found myself feeling angry and resentful towards God.

In spite, all of my and my families prayers my mother lost her battle with the terrible disease. Now I know ultimately my mom is in a better place but at the time my heart had been blinded by the anger and resentment I felt towards God.
So what are we to do when we find ourselves angry towards God?

First, we should talk to God. We should voice our feelings towards him through prayer and quiet moments with him. God loves each and every one of us. And he doesn’t wish pain or sorrow on any of us. We must acknowledge that we live in a fallen world and that we must trust in God and his commitment to guide us and comfort us.

Second, we should ask God for strength and courage. The two years I watched my mom battle with cancer were times of great helplessness for me and my family. After her passing, it took some time before I realized that I lacked the strength and courage that I needed to cope with my grief.

Third, we should ask God for his peace. Peace to comfort us and guide us during those difficult and trying days. Grieving can be a crippling experience for many who do not know God’s peace. Had it not been for the peace I found through God I would still be emotionally and spiritually crippled by my grief.

Four years later there isn’t a day that goes by that I don’t think of my mom. There’s not a day that goes by that I don’t miss her. And I must admit, I still have those days when all I want to do is hear her voice or huge her neck. It’s in these days that I call on God’s peace, strength and courage to see me through. And thankfully, God is good.
